What is it?

The AEFL Level 1, 2 & 3 (mounted) clinics are run by Australian Equine Facilitated Learning (AEFL) Trainers and Assessors. AEFL is Australia’s leading equine facilitated education and teaching program for students wanting to begin a career as an Equine Facilitator.

Our facilitators come from varied and diverse backgrounds with different motivations and horse skills. Most of them have worked with horses and from these experiences have wanted to share the healing power of horses with others

Where is it?

The sessions are held in 2 locations - Victoria & Queensland.

 

Victoria is hosted at the beautiful and historical Tooradin Estate.

Tooradin Estate is a 300-acre property situated 60kms southeast of Melbourne, which boasts endless paddocks, working yards, arenas and a 2* cross-country course. There is some accommodation available on site.

Queensland is hosted by Ebony Cox Equine Services in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, situated 45 mins north from the Sunshine Coast airport in the bustling town of Gympie. AEFL Philosophy

This course is about working with clients and horses as individuals and then bringing them together for a therapeutic interaction. This promotes strategies to attain healthier relationships that can in turn improve wider group and family dynamics.

The clinic consists of demonstrations, practical exercises and a wealth of the most up-to-date information. We believe there is no greater teacher than the horses we work with and the environment we live in - what better place to gain new skills and life lessons! 

AEFL Team

The Australian Equine Facilitated Learning Team is run by professional horse trainers, qualified equine scientists and equine enthusiasts. – Elaine Hooper & Ebony Cox.  They are assisted by a number of enthusiastic, dedicated and skilled people - the glamorous assistants! They have expertise in areas such as Computer Technology, Western Horsemanship, Clinicial Psychology and Equine Bodywork.

Clinic Experience

Students will attend a dynamic L1, L2, or Mounted clinic alongside Assessors and Trainers from Australian Equine Facilitated Learning (AEFL). The clinic blends practical skill development, experiential learning, and professional discussion to support confident facilitation in equine-facilitated settings.

Certificate Criteria

  • Complete a post-clinic self-assessment and participate in a discussion with trainers to reflect on areas of competence and growth.

  • Undertake the required post-clinic practical hours and complete associated paperwork in line with assessment criteria and the training workbook*.

  • Ensure all required documentation and consent forms are obtained prior to engaging with clients.

  • Plan, facilitate, and document each client session, including session notes and supporting documentation submitted via the online portal.

  • Submit the required video footage of sessions for assessment and feedback.

  • *Advanced levels require submission of a completed workbook for formal assessment.

Pre-requisite

Each level now requires an online module to be completed as part of the overall experience. The

online training modules will refresh your equine skills and  expand your understanding on horse care, health, safety, and wellbeing.  

Whilst it is not a pre-requisite to have horse skills and experience, it would be difficult to meet the required criteria without having worked with horses in some capacity before. Initially the work is all ground-based so riding ability is not necessary.

What AEFL does not require is any kind of medical or mental health qualification.  

 

All trainees are required to have WWC (blue card), NDIS Clearance/Police Check, First Aid & CPR, and activity specific insurance before commencing work with clients. 


All trainees will need access to and have basic skills on how to use Microsoft Office (Word etc), PDF, access to a printer/scanner, ability to access and search internet, participate in online discussions, email capabilities, basic camera/phone skills, ability to upload/download to/from a website and basic language, numeracy and literacy.  *Please note that Mac or Apple products platforms will require the student to know how to convert to Microsoft Office & PDF.

Travelling to the Clinic/Workshop

Although we do not anticipate schedule changes, we highly recommend that you secure reliable transport to and from the Clinic. AEFL cannot assist with Travel Plans. AEFL Pty Ltd is not responsible for any financial loss that you may suffer if you are unable to attend the clinic or if the clinic is not running/cancelled.

 

​​​The Certificate

On completion of the clinic, students will have the option to participate in the assessment criteria to gain a certificate of achievement recognising that they have attained the required skills, ethics, and standards to be deemed competent.

Students will have the knowledge, skills and confidence and understand the expectations of working with clients and horses in an EFL environment. Attendance alone does not guarantee certification; all assessment criteria must be completed.

AEFL facilitators will have access to further education opportunities, professional development, and the opportunity to become an AEFL Practicing Member.​ Please note if a trainee is unable to progress with certification or does not meet the requirements of the criteria there are option to attend recertification at a later date.

Booking Process

Step 1 - Head to the website – www.efl.net.au.

Step 2 - Sign up/Log in to the website – Ensure that you have all your details current and valid.

Step 3 - Head to the Workshops and Clinics Tab & Select Upcoming Clinics.

Step 4 - Click – "Book Clinic" – Complete the Booking form - ensure you complete any dietary requirements, information about you and your horse experience, media consent & emergency contact information.

Step 5 - Pay the Deposit to secure your booking.

Step 6 – Settle your outstanding balance 3 weeks before the start of the clinic.

AEFL Pty Ltd is a private company. AEFL Pty Ltd is NOT an Registered Training Organisation (RTO). 
This clinic is not government funded. 

Code of Conduct

All students must sign and acknowledge the AEFL Student code of conduct at the commencement of each clinic.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

  • Deposit: Non-refundable.

  • More than 3 weeks before the event: Full or partial refund may be offered, depending on costs already incurred (venue, catering, etc.).

  • Less than 3 weeks before the event: Fees and deposits are non-refundable and cannot be applied to another AEFL event.

  • Transfers: You may transfer your registration to another person from your organisation at no extra cost.

  • After the clinic starts or is attended: No refunds will be given.

  • Certification requirements: Refunds will not be issued if assessment criteria are not met and a certificate is not awarded.
